The Drive From Downtown Mystic
From the Mystic drawbridge, the route is straightforward: head up through Old Mystic and over to Flanders Road, and you are at Building 9 in a matter of minutes. It is a short, low-traffic run compared with crossing the river toward New London, and it avoids the summer congestion that clogs downtown from June through Labor Day.
Coming from Route 27 or I-95, the exits feed onto Flanders Road directly, so the last leg of the trip is a straight shot rather than a series of turns through residential streets.
For most Mystic residents this is a shorter door-to-barbell trip than the drive plus parking hunt for any downtown option, especially in season.

Getting Here From I-95, Route 184 And Route 1
From I-95 in either direction, take the Groton exits and follow Route 184 or Route 1 to Flanders Road, then on to Building 9. Flanders Road runs parallel to Route 117 rather than connecting to it, so use the Route 184 or Route 1 approach. Northbound traffic from Stonington and southbound traffic from New London both land on the same short final leg, which keeps the trip predictable in summer when downtown Mystic backs up.
Naval Submarine Base New London is a straightforward run down Route 12 and across, which is why so much of the membership works shifts at the base.
